I found an hour this afternoon to photograph my latest Flower Earrings. Although it was very chilly outside, the sun was shining so I decided to venture outside, as ever looking around my garden for new backgrounds and textures for my photos. To start with I was getting frustrated because the sun was just too bright, so I moved under the gentle shade of my willow tree which is just starting to shoot. Here I discovered some moss mottled paving stones. They have a great rustic feel to them.
I then looked at the tree trunk and wondered how that would look as a background. I decided I wanted my earrings to be hanging off a twig so had to construct something for the twig to be supported on. I created a very temporary structure with a vase and a box and was able to take these 2 photos just before the cold wind blew, the twig slipped and the earrings fell off!
I tried a few more times but the weather was having none of it and kept blowing my earrings around so I couldn't get a clear focus. Shivering and stiff from lying on the ground, I gave in and went inside to download my photos and have hot drink.

Love these flowers! Have you submitted them to a magazine? Think you should.
ReplyDeleteIt must be wonderful to live in a climate where there is enough sunshine to photograph in natural light. :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty earrings. It was worth braving the cold to get those photos.
Beautiful earrings and I love the picks, the moss is lovely and the tree is ace, great idea
ReplyDeleteLove the earrings...the photos are great. You are BRAVE to venture out today in the wind and rain.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin. I think your photos with the tree in the background and the earrings on a twig are my favorite. The earrings are nicely showcased (great work on the earrings too!).
ReplyDeleteI am currently trying to figure out how to get the clarity you have in your photos, in some of mine. I haven't tried to venture outside yet. I think I just need to keep working with my camera and the lighting.
The warm drink sounds great.
I love your wire-work. It's like you're drawing with the wire! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThank you guys for your lovely comments - I am very grateful when others bother to give me feedback on my jewellery and pictures - I really appreciate it.... so thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeverly - I'm not sure I'm ready to submit my work to a magazine, how would I go about that?
Kathleen - I think the quality of the camera certainly goes towards the quality of the pictures. I am using my son's (!! - Xmas present from grandparents - lucky boy!). It is an Olympus (7.1 MP) and has a brilliant 'super-macro' setting which means you can get really close to the subject. I also take my pictures on the highest resolution possible and use my gorilla grip tripod to help keep the camera as steady as possible.
Andrew - It's funny you should mention 'drawing' because I have always loved drawing flowers and spirals and used to doodle loads of flower shapes when I was a college (way back when...), so I think you're right - I have transfered this into my jewellery designs.
these are so cute
