A friend of mine recently bought a pair of my 'Hammered Fine Silver Disc Earrings' but when they arrived she decided she actually want them to be much bigger. It's been a while, but I got out my silver clay and tools the other evening and got to work. I had forgotten how much fun it is to work with art clay silver and soon had used up a whole 20g pack creating different textured discs for earrings and pendants.
Here are the 'Hammered Disc Earrings' I made. They are significantly BIGGER than the original pair (nearly 2cm in diameter). My friend was happy with these and wore them straight away.
Next up are my 'Pebbles Textured Disc Earrings' - slightly larger than I normally make.
And finally, (for now, as I still have lots more pieces to brush, sand, burnish, hammer, polish...) I tried a new shape. These are my 'Aubrietia Flower Earrings', named after the beautiful purple flowers that have been spreading in my garden. They are dainty little earrings that sit just below your earlobe. I was really pleased how these turned out as I managed to find a way to secure the flowers to my handmade ball earwires so the flowers don't slip off the earwires when you're not wearing them.
The last two pairs of earrings are up for sale in my Etsy store.
really beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteVery nice earrings, you do beautiful work with the silver clay. Debbie
ReplyDeleteI love the aubretia earrings! It's such a wonderful photo too, and great to see the inspiration alongside the finished item.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely ! Would love to have a go with Art Clay Silver, but what do you do about firing your pieces ? Do you have your own kiln?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, these are stunning, I love the pebbles earrings xx
ReplyDeleteGreat work Kristin. Love all the textures you come up with. The flowers are wonderful in your photo of the aubretia earrings too...nice accent!
ReplyDeleteGreat textures! The pebble ones remind me of the steel drums we play in the Caribbean. The flower ones are very feminine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful earrings; I especially like the flower earrings.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for such lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteVicky - you should definitely have a go with silver clay - you can buy a starter kit for quite a reasonable price (here's a link to a seller in UK: http://www.silverclay.co.uk/sh65.htm ). I don't have a kiln so I use the steel mesh and fire my pieces on my gas hob for about 5 minutes - it's really easy.
Good luck, Kristin :)
Love them all, especially the pebble texture!! And those flowers.....mmmmm.....sooooooooo lovely! Please take pictures of your garden and share with us :-).
ReplyDeleteyour vision and execution are superb... the textures are entrancing... you should consider making charms and pendants to sell on etsy - i would buy them!
ReplyDeleteHmmm.... charms.... that's a good idea. I do make pendants but haven't made charms before. Thanks for the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteKristin :)
