Last week I went on a lovely holiday with my family to the beautiful coast of Dorset. It was perfect and we were so lucky with the weather. I made a decision before I went not to take any of my jewellery making things, not even my sketch book. I decided that I would take a complete break from the norm... and I have to say it was exactly that. Half way through the week I realised I had not really thought about my jewellery at all and I felt totally relaxed. Before I went I had delisted all my items on eBay and Folksy and put my Etsy shop on 'vacation' mode. This meant I didn't need to worry about anything and I could concentrate on enjoying myself with my family.
That was last week. Now, nearly half way through this week, I have been sitting looking at my lovely beads and gemstones but I just can't find the inspiration to create anything. I also have a couple of future tutorials milling around in my head but I can't find the effort to sit down and write them. This is so unlike me.
Hopefully 'normal service will be resumed as soon as possible'..... until then I shall just have to enjoy the beautiful sunshine.
Ouch

ReplyDeleteHope you had a great time Kristin. Did you take the sky lantern?? :) xx
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a wonderful holiday and relaxed...so very important.
ReplyDeleteI think this 'block' of sorts happens to all of us. Your creative juices will start flowing again. Sometimes I start on something simple with nothing really in mind and all of a sudden the ideas start to explode and I can't keep up.
Wishing you a great inspirations for your creativity. :)
hey girl, this happens to me from time to time, so to get started I make simple 2 or 3 color basic beads and it helps me get my mojo back...just relax, enjoy the sun and start with a simple item that you know how to do really well...and take it from there...
ReplyDeletejust saw the Kathleen pretty much said the same thing I did before...lol
ReplyDeleteTry reading some jewelry books. That usually works for me. Pearl
ReplyDeleteHi Lovely, I am so glad you had a restful holiday. Maybe your Mojo has extended its holiday? I tend to have a really mojoless phase followed by a HUGE surge of ideas. Either that or you need to drink more ;)
ReplyDeleteShay I'm so glad to have read this post and the comments because I thought it was just me! The same thing happens to me when I get back from a purely vacation trip (as opposed to an art-related trip), especially if it's a long one. I guess when we give our brain permission to take a total break from what we normally do, it just takes as long it needs! When I recognize this happening now I just ride it out by doing other things until the mojo comes back, which as Mel says, usually returns with bells on! Fear not - you'll get yours back soon.
ReplyDeleteOops - called you Shay by mistake - meant Kristin of course ;)
ReplyDeleteHappens to me too, every now and then...and then, invariably, 'normal services are resumed'. Enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteHi, Kristin...I do know what you mean. Sometimes my creativity takes a vacation and I've got nothing to work with. Usually it's associated with not feeling well. (http://kannaglassstudios.blogspot.com/2009/04/victoria-harbour-shimmer.html). When I am completely dry, I go back to the basics. I repeat designs, do spacers, do simple things that are second nature. Usually that little effort springs forth the creative rainstorm. Example: I was just doing super simple spacers in blue and yellow and oila! I ended up with French Country...http://kannaglassstudios.blogspot.com/2009/05/french-country-cim-sapphire.html
ReplyDeleteHeh, it seems I am using your creative spark to send me off on a really, really fun (for me) tangent of swirl beads. Don't worry, even your basics are fabulously beautiful. I was re-reading your tutorial on florals to help me stabilize my new floral swirl beads...
Hi Kristin, just want to add my thoughts too, I frequentl lose my mojo! To be honest previously when I've struggled it's been in the run-up to selling my goods at a school fair, and I just put too much pressure on myself to come up with fresh ideas and try to fill gaps in designs I've already made. But just now I haven't got another booking until November and am really enjoying going through all my books and following those designs; I'm currently making a beautiful pendant necklace from a Bead&Button book, which incorporates lots of different stitching methods, which I'm enjoying practising, and love working with small beads. As there's no pressure on me making this and because I chose to do it, in my own colour scheme which I spent a long time deciding on and ordering, I'm really loving it. I hope it will sell or get me some orders in other colour combinations; but it'll be stunning for a wedding guest or other special occasion - keep an eye on my blog to see the finished result; plus I'll post pics of work-in-progress! I'm v pleased with it so far. There's lots of other ideas going on in my head to do other stuff, but I sometimes find if I'm making a bit of too many items at once, I lose focus. Stick at it - I absolutely love your designs - simple but very elegant and eye-catching! Your mojo will come flowing back soon enough. Good luck, Jo xxx
ReplyDeleteI know I am late in reading this post, but the same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. I also posted about it on my blog and some people suggested I just take a break, walk away from the beads, and eventually the inspiration and creativity would return. So I did that for about a week, and then everything was fine! Whew...I think it is totally normal and happens to all of us creative types from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOh - the creative process is exactly like that. Wait for your muse and drink in relaxation. She will come.
