Finding the right angle

A while ago I wrote a post about how difficult it was to photograph bracelets and this morning I have had the same struggle with my latest necklace. It is made from beautiful fluorite nugget beads with a handmade spiral clasp. I wanted to make sure I was showing off the amazing range of colours found in the fluorite beads.

To take these photographs took ages to find the right angle and I've still got a lot of other jewellery to photograph (as well as a load of housework!). Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

  1. Hi Kristin,
Sometimes photography can be so frustrating, but very rewarding when it comes out right. For me the best photo is the one in the 3rd row on the left, where the necklace spirals around itself. Then again, I like the last photo with the pebbles too.

  2. Hi Kristin

All of these photos are really nice and I too can appreciate how long it takes to position things and get just the right shot.

My favorite is the 2nd row, 1st column on the left. Nicely done and a lovely necklace too!

  3. lovely necklace, I think all the photos are good, but they all need more light, in that you can add more lite to the background of the photo in your photo editor...hope that helps...

  4. Thank you all for your positive comments. I really appreciate feedback.

Yes, light will always be an issue with my photos as I don't have a light box and I shoot in natural light by my patio doors. I try to make the most of the light available. Sometimes I like the sunshine and the shadows it makes. Other times, I prefer a cloudier day. I have looked at my photo editor and only seem to be able to lighten the whole picture (not the background only) which tends to bleach the photo. Can anyone recommend a photo editor that might help?

  5. try Picassa from goggle it is free download and it will take over your entire photo file, its kind of cool...but if you have lots of photos it will take some time, it did for me...

  6. hi, they're lovely! do need a little more light - why not try an angled mirror to bounce back a little bit more light from your patio doors which will come in at another angle. I don't have a lightbox either! photo editing and lightening will help, as suggested above. My fav is second down on the left, the spiral one.

  7. Hi Rachel
That's a really good idea about using a mirror, I shall certainly try that next time... watch this space!
    Thanks, Kristin :)
